Maintenance Requirements
The Workplace, Health Safety and Welfare Regulations 1992 require that at a minimum, powered doors are efficiently maintained and in good working order and state of repair. Furthermore, the recommendations require that all industrial and commercial doors have a programme of maintenance.
In April 2006 a new regulation were bought out in respect of fire resisting doors, the onus is now on the building owner to ensure that a regular maintenance programme is in place.
The March issue of Buildings & Maintenance Publication clearly highlights the importance of maintenance programmes only from an insurance respect but also more importantly from a Health and Safety view point.
Please be aware that every new build or replacement panic and emergency exit application is required to comply with European safety legislation. The European standards EN 1125 and EN 179 covering exit devices for buildings have now been designated to demonstrate compliance with this legislation. Together they replace BS 5725:pt:1981 which is now withdrawn.
